Job Description warehouse logistician
The warehouse logistician, also known as a warehouse logistics specialist, works in the logistical planning and organization of warehouses of all kinds. This primarily involves the acceptance, commissioning, loading and transport of goods. The specialist for warehouse logistics is a training occupation that is recognized by the BBiG and is regulated nationwide. The training lasts three years and is offered in trade, industry and commerce. School training is also possible.
Typical tasks of a warehouse logistician
A warehouse logistician is responsible for optimizing the flow of materials, values and information, from procurement to sales. He accepts procured materials, checks them for damage and, if necessary, forwards them directly to the place that requested the material. If materials are not needed immediately, he must find a suitable interim storage facility for them. It is essential to have an up-to-date overview of the number and local distribution. He should therefore carry out stock checks in between. Furthermore, the analysis of procurement planning, the search and comparison of new suppliers as well as the completion of orders are part of his area of responsibility. Due to a new classification of the profession and the connection with the commercial professions, however, completely different requirements are now being placed on the warehouse logistics specialist, such as the calculation of warehouse indicators and basic knowledge of bookkeeping. This should enable the warehouse logistician to calculate the entire warehouse and help to check and control the profitability of the warehouse. But he should also be familiar with dealing with IT systems and topics such as occupational safety and environmental protection.
