GSM 900 and dual band GSM 900/1800. Network operators include EM (Internet www.emt.ee – dual band) and Tele2 (Q GSM) (GSM 900) (Internet: www.tele2.ee). Roaming agreements exist. Transmitting / receiving area for mobile communications across the country. For longer stays, it might be worthwhile to buy a SIM card from a local prepaid provider. The “kõnekaart” (prepaid card in German) is available in R kiosks on the street.

International roaming can be used within the EU at the Euro tariff. Customers of all European mobile network operators automatically make all calls in and from other EU countries at the Euro rate. However, the Euro tariff does not apply to other mobile communications services such as SMS, MMS and data transmission.

Internet

The Internet is the key to success for Estonia’s economy. Therefore, there is a nearly area-wide WLAN network, even in the most remote villages and on beaches there are public hotspots. They are marked with white and blue @ signs. An overview list can be viewed at www.wifi.ee. In Tallinn, public buildings and places such as libraries, post offices and the airport have free internet access. Internet provider is among others Delfi Online (Internet: www.delfi.ee). Internet cafes are also available.

Letters to Western Europe are on the way for 2-4 days. Stamps are available at post offices and kiosks (Internet: www.post.ee).

Hotel classification: Hotels are divided into the Hotelstars Union star categories from one to five stars.

Camping

There are over 80 campsites available, two of them on the Tallinn – Pärnu motorway (Camping and Motel Peoleo, 12 km from Tallinn, and Camping Kernu, 40 km from Tallinn). In Pärnu itself there is a campsite at Motel Valgerrand. You can also pitch your tent in Malveste on the island of Hiiumaa. The standard of the courses has improved, but does not yet correspond to western standards.

Other accommodation options

There are youth hostels in Tallinn, Vösu, on the Baltic Sea and in the regions of Virumaa (70 km from Tallinn), Harjumaa (20 km from Tallinn), Läänemaa (50 km west of Pärnu) and in the Valga region in southern Estonia.
