The senior internal auditor is responsible for the preparation, implementation and follow-up of accounting and tax audits in a company or financial institution or other organization. He usually reports directly to the Internal Audit Manager or the Head of Internal Audit.
Typical tasks of a Senior Internal Auditor
As a senior internal auditor, you evaluate in-house controlling, risk management and monitoring systems in a company, financial institution or organization. With his team, he ensures neutral and objective validation through constant evaluation and control of numbers and processes.
The Senior Internal Auditor is responsible for the implementation of audit processes and regular reporting on risk management issues to the CFO or supports the Head of Internal Audit in this. He collects and analyzes numbers and data to locate weaknesses and deficits.
The senior internal auditor is an expert in risk identification and in the design and testing of risk control concepts. He checks whether internal processes are running properly and according to regulations and whether the principles of proper accounting (GoB) are being followed. In the course of this, he has the task of locating irregularities (errors in accounting and posting), inefficiencies and manipulations (e.g. embezzlement).
The Senior Internal Auditor creates transparency about processes and organizational units. In addition to his control functions, he also takes on consulting tasks for individual departments when implementing change processes.
Within the auditing department, the senior internal auditor is usually an employee with many years of practical experience, and in some cases also has personnel responsibility. An academic background in business administration with a focus on finance/accounting or a comparable qualification is typically required for his position.
