Job Description Project Controller

The project controller makes an important contribution to the success of the project. He structures, coordinates and controls projects in cooperation with the project management and other colleagues – for example from the commercial or technical area.

Through his analyses, he provides decision-making aids when it comes to planning deadlines, costs and capacities. He creates the necessary material and presents it to those responsible.

Part of the job and typical tasks of the project controller

The project controller monitors the progress of his project and creates status reports for management and project control. His focus is on meeting cost targets. It is crucial for the success of his work that the project controller recognizes the risk of budget overruns at an early stage and then initiates the appropriate measures.

The position is often filled with graduate business economists or graduate industrial engineers. Employers usually want experience in project management. They also require sound computer skills: in addition to MS Office applications, many companies also expect their applicants to be proficient in SAP modules (such as PS & SD, IM or FI & CO) or Primavera P6.

The project controller should negotiate convincingly and assertively, but also be characterized by his ability to work in a team.

The project controller convinces with his independent working style. It is important for successful work that he has a far-reaching understanding of commercial relationships.

Good to very good knowledge of English and, if necessary, another foreign language as well as knowledge of the industry are often required.
