Business etiquette
In business circles, you can often get by with a knowledge of English or French, but if in doubt you should inquire beforehand. Business cards are generally only exchanged in managerial circles. July and August are not recommended for business trips.
Lisbon
In Lisbon there is much less bureaucracy when it comes to business than in the past and English is spoken quite well in business circles, but you still have to be patient. Meetings can take much longer than expected, and long lunch breaks are common. Even the simplest business transactions and processes seem to take longer in Lisbon than in other European metropolises. It is customary to shake hands when greeting and saying goodbye; Business cards are exchanged after introducing yourself. It is customary to address people by their title and full name – especially if they are people with professional qualifications (e.g. Engenheiro) and academic degree. Regardless of the degree, academics are usually referred to as? Doctor (a)?? addressed. The equivalent of?? Lord?? and woman?? is Sr, Sra or D (for?? Dona??). Colleagues often also speak to “colleague” at.
Suits or costumes are the usual clothes in the office. It is advisable to inquire whether the daywear is also suitable for social occasions. It is considered very rude to write any official notice or instruction in red.
If you meet business friends and colleagues, this usually takes place in bars and restaurants, rarely at home. Alcohol is consumed with almost all meals in Lisbon, but in moderation at business meetings.

COMMUNICATION
Phone
The country code is 00351. Telephone booths are widespread and public telephones are available in bars, reception desks and cafes for national and international calls. These can be used with coins or phone cards. Phone cards can be purchased in MEO stores, post offices, kiosks and tobacco shops. There are internet cafes in bigger cities and tourist areas where you can skype.
The general emergency number is 112 in Portugal, a country located in Europe according to transporthint.
Cellphone
GSM 900/1800 and 3G 2100. Network operators are MEO (Internet: www.meo.pt), NOS (Internet: www.nos.pt) and Vodafone (Internet: www.vodafone.pt). The network coverage is very good in Portugal. International roaming contracts exist. You can also buy a mobile phone on site.
International roaming can be used within the EU at the Euro tariff. Customers of all European mobile network operators automatically make all calls in and from other EU countries at the Euro rate. However, the Euro tariff does not apply to other mobile communications services such as SMS, MMS and data transmission.
Internet
Internet providers include Sonae (Internet: www.sonae.pt) and PT Empresas (Internet: www.ptempresas.pt). Internet cafes are found in all urban areas and in some rural areas. Numerous cafés and post offices, as well as other public facilities, offer paid internet access. Mobile surfing is possible in so-called “wireless” zones in restaurants, hotels, public places such as conference rooms, airports, rest stops and shopping centers. Mobile surfing on the Internet is also made possible by the Goodspeed Wi-Fi hotspots, which are subject to a charge (Internet: goodspeed.io/de/index.html).
Post Office
Airmail from Portugal and the Azores to Northern Europe takes around three days and from Madeira around five days. All post offices have counters for poste restante items. Post office opening times (correios): Mon-Fri 9 a.m.-6 p.m. The main post offices in Lisbon and at the airports are also open on Saturdays.
