Job Description Accountant

The tax consultant often works freelance or in a consulting firm. He advises his clients on all questions of tax law and takes on various tasks in the tax area for them.

Typical duties of a tax consultant

The tax consultant takes over the tax support of companies, organizations and corporations either as a freelancer or within a consulting firm and represents his clientele before the tax office. He takes care of the entire tax planning as well as the optimization of corporate structures (location planning, group structuring) insofar as they have tax relevance.

The tax consultant is also a specialist in reorganizations, company acquisitions and sales and is consulted by his clients in this regard. His tasks include the assessment of company finances and employee assignments.

He prepares expert opinions and provides legal advice on all issues relating to the tax law system. He evaluates billing methods and designs employee participation models. He also keeps an eye on bookkeeping and payroll accounting.

The tax advisor is always up to date on all tax changes and innovations. His duties also include business consulting.

As a general rule, the state only approves tax consultants who have completed the appropriate professional training and have passed the examination before the responsible chamber of tax consultants. A university degree in economics or law is required as an apprenticeship.

In addition, at least three years (or four years after studying at a university of applied sciences or ten after commercial training) are required to have practical experience in the field of taxation. Applicants from other EU member states can also be admitted to the examination, provided they can produce a diploma.
