Job Description Call Center Agent

The call center agent, also known as a telephone agent, makes commercial calls to corporate customers full-time. Every larger company that maintains contact with its customers employs call center agents or works with agencies that employ them. Vocational training as a call center agent is not recognized under the Vocational Training Act, but can be completed part-time or full-time with private training providers. The duration of the training can therefore vary between three and ten months.

The job as a call center agent and the typical tasks

The field of activity of the call center agent is as diverse as the different industries that operate telephone marketing and telephone sales. The call center agent serves as a link between the company and the direct customer or business partner. A distinction is generally made between the inbound area, in which the call center management receives customer calls directly, and the outbound area, in which customers are contacted in a targeted manner. However, the function is the same in both areas: the agent is responsible for customer loyalty, advice and new customer acquisition. It also serves as a point of contact for customer problems related to the products or services offered. He must have knowledge of customer-oriented communication as well as commercial basics, which also include legal issues. The most important characteristics of a call center agent are friendliness and communication skills as well as argumentative skills and patience. In large international companies, business fluent knowledge of a foreign language is often required.
