Job Description Financial Accounting Manager
The Financial Accounting Manager is responsible for the accounting department of a company or bank. Larger companies often have up to three Financial Accounting Managers, one for Accounts Payable, one for Accounts Receivable and another for Payroll. In smaller organizations, there is often only one manager responsible for these three areas.
As a manager, the Financial Accounting Manager has personnel responsibility and reports directly – depending on the size of the company – to the CFO, for example.
Typical tasks of the Financial Accounting Manager
The Financial Accounting Manager is responsible for internal financial reporting and its compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). He and his team of financial accountants determine a company’s financial status by documenting and analyzing financial data and reporting to the appropriate department.
The Financial Accounting Manager is familiar with all tax requirements and obligations. He knows the relevant internal company requirements and guidelines and the general standards and monitors the database maintenance accordingly. He monitors costs and revenues by collecting, consolidating and evaluating data.
As a manager, he has personnel responsibility: he recruits and guides new employees, he monitors his team, advises, coordinates and organizes. He clearly communicates the employer’s expectations of the employees while keeping an eye on their advancement opportunities. He evaluates performance and implements procedures and processes.
For a position as a financial accounting manager, an academic background in business administration with a focus on accounting/finance is usually expected. Knowledge of the relevant ERP and accounting systems and several years of professional experience in accounting are required, as is in-depth management experience.
