Job Description Strategic Planning Officer
The Strategic Planning Officer is responsible for the development of business ideas and strategic corporate planning. He actively accompanies the strategy development process and supports management in identifying fields of action, designing strategic directions and in strategic control.
Strategic planning is interdisciplinary and has an interface function. Business, communication and social scientists, psychologists, behavioral researchers or educators work as strategic planners. The job profile is therefore very different. It is not uncommon for strategic planning positions to be filled by former strategy consultants.
The job and typical tasks of a consultant include strategic planning
The Strategic Planning consultant analyzes and evaluates strategic options and creates business cases or feasibility studies.
He organizes and moderates strategy workshops with specialist departments, converts the corporate strategy into sub-strategies and manages the strategic management of derived focus topics.
In addition, the Strategic Planning Officer is responsible for the preparation and follow-up of the strategy retreats of the company board and the annual strategy and planning talks with the parent company.
He has the function of strategic advisor and contact person for the Management Board and the departments in strategic issues. He is constantly working on the further development of the strategy development process and the models.
The strategic planning consultant usually has a degree in economics (focus on controlling/strategy and/or insurance/financial services) and several years of professional experience in strategy development and/or controlling at an insurance company or management consultancy. He needs a confident appearance, high communication skills, presentation security and persuasiveness. In addition, he should have analytical and conceptual thinking skills as well as planning skills. Good knowledge of the English language and a high degree of initiative, willingness to perform, social skills and team orientation round off his profile.
