Job Description Medical Transcriptionist
The medical transcriptionist is mainly needed in hospitals, but also in smaller clinics and medical practices. She is responsible for professional correspondence. You must have a good knowledge of medical nomenclature and German orthography. In addition, she should have a fast typing speed, be familiar with dictaphones and master a transcription technique. For the job as a medical transcriptionist, a friendly and positive attitude, high social skills and the ability to work in a team are required. Professional experience in the medical field, ideally in various medical specialties, is an advantage. In order to be able to work as a medical professional, give medical assistants the opportunity to complete further training to become a medical transcriptionist or even to become a certified medical transcriptionist. This can be, for example, medical assistants and nurses, but also clerks from clinics, health insurance companies or health authorities.
Typical duties of a medical transcriptionist
The medical transcriptionist is mainly responsible for the correspondence of the medical institution. She writes letters based on audio dictation or keywords, records medical correspondence, archives correspondence, writes letters to doctors, for example in SAP, and corrects letters. She is also responsible for many general secretarial duties. For example, planning and monitoring appointments, processing mail and managing office supplies. In rare cases, the medical transcriptionist is also used to fill in for secretarial staff during absences.
